WEC at Ocala Jockey Club

WEC Development filed an application for rezoning and a Comprehensive Plan amendment that will change rural NW Marion County forever. SORA needs YOUR support to maintain the status quo. On June 21, 2022, the BOCC voted 3-2 to approve the application. It is the beginning of the fall of the Farmland Preservation Area (FPA) as every developer going forward will argue “precedent” and “periphery” to get high-density developments approved. Please join our fight for the FPA! This is too much!

94 housing units - 1 house per 3 acres

Gas station

120,000 sqft (2.49 acres!) of commercial buildings

9,000 seat stadium

6 permanent barns

Rural Marion County Needs YOUR Help NOW

Once the Comprehensive Development Plan gets amended the potential for higher density land use development opens. Our comp plan is the final bastion against unbridled development - alter the plan for one development and the Farmland Preservation Area can fall. Why? Because it will set precedent to allow more of these higher density, mixed-use uses (like hotels and gas stations) and has the ability to be applied anywhere in our Farmland Preservation. The FPA has large horse and cattle farms and open space so we are a target for development.

Help SORA's effort to prevent this from happening and express YOUR OPPOSITION.
